CHICAGO — Demonstrations protesting the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis absorbed Chicago on Saturday and Sunday. Massive peaceful protests throughout Downtown gave way to violence and widespread property destruction, though city officials said protesters were not responsible for causing damage and injuries.

As business owners and neighbors surveyed the aftermath Sunday, city leaders closed off vast portions of the city to prevent access to downtown — shutting down public transit completely — pushing demonstrations as well as devastating property damage into local neighborhoods.
