BRIDGEPORT — Chance the Rapper will play one of the first shows at the Ramova Theatre in February.

The South Side rapper will perform Feb. 16 at the Ramova Theatre, 3520 S. Halsted St., the recently reopened concert venue he helped revive. Tickets for the all-ages show will go on sale to the public Friday on Ramova’s website.

Chance is the first major touring act to take to the stage at the Ramova, the long-closed former movie house that reopened late last year as a concert venue, brewery and diner.

Chance is among the investors and co-owners of the historical theater alongside fellow South Side musicians Jennifer Hudson and Quincy Jones.

“I can’t wait to kick things off next month with a historic hometown concert at the newly restored Ramova Theatre,” Chance said in a news release. “The Ramova has played an integral part in Chicago’s renowned arts culture, and I’m thrilled we’re bringing it back to showcase the best of my city’s artistry.”

The Ramova reopened to the public late last year, hosting its first event on New Year’s Eve.

The Ramova opened in 1929 as a sister theater to the Music Box Theatre in Lakeview. It closed in 1985 and sat vacant for decades.

In 2020, the theater was sold to a joint venture led by developer Tyler Nevius and local development firm Baum Revision. Along with investors Chance, Hudson and Jones, the group redeveloped the movie house into an 1,800-capacity concert hall and events space.

The renovated Ramova complex also includes an Other Half Brewing taproom and the reopened Ramova Grill, which closed in 2012 after 82 years in business.

Chance’s performance at the Ramova comes ahead of the artist’s next project, “Star Line Gallery.” The multi-disciplinary project includes new music and collaborations with painters and filmmakers, according to a press release.
