LOGAN SQUARE — Neighborhood favorite Miko’s Italian Ice opens for the season this weekend, one of the surest signs that spring is coming.

Both Miko’s outposts in Logan Square and Irving Park — at 2236 N. Sacramento Ave. and 4125 N. Kimball Ave. — are set to open noon Saturday, owner Zach Roombos said.

The walk-up spots will be open until 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Roombos said they typically open the first weekend in April that sees temperatures above 60 degrees. They opted to open a bit earlier than usual this year because Friday could be as warm as 65 degrees, he said.

The opening falls on April Fool’s Day, but Roombos said it’s not a prank — scoops of Miko’s signature Italian ice will be flowing come Saturday.

“My staff is eager to get back to scooping [and] bringing smiles to our customers’ faces,” Roombos said.

Founded in 1997, Miko’s is a summer staple in Logan Square and Irving Park. The family-run business celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.
