LOGAN SQUARE — Cafe Tola’s signature empanadas have officially arrived in Logan Square.

After a soft opening Friday, the new spot at 2489 N. Milwaukee Ave., the former home of Small Fry, started its regular hours of operation Monday.

The hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 7 a.m. – 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

On the menu is an array of empanadas — stuffed with everything from spicy pork with cactcus and black beans to chicken mole — plus tacos, burritos and tortas.

The popular counter spot, which has locations in Avondale and Lakeview, is owned by husband-and-wife team Gerardo and Victoria Salamanca. The recipes come from family — specifically Victoria Salamanca’s grandmother.

“She’s really the matriarch of the family, and her ability to put food together is not something that anyone can do,” Victoria Salamanca told DNAinfo in 2016. “When I make dishes, I can’t help but to think of her. It’s all her.”

The Logan Square outpost is Cafe Tola’s third location. The couple is also in the middle of opening a fourth location in River North.
