CHICAGO — Hyde Park’s A10 restaurant is closing.

Owners of the Italian and French restaurant, 1462 E. 53rd St., said another business had expressed “strong interest” in creating a new eatery in the location and the owners decided it was “the right time to transition and focus on other projects,” according to a Saturday Facebook post. A10 opened in the neighborhood five years ago.

“It’s difficult to leave behind a restaurant and community we value so greatly, but [we] are grateful for the experience and excited for our new ventures,” the post read.

Chef Matthias Merges, who operates a group of bars and restaurants under the Folk Art Management umbrella, opened A10 in 2013. The restaurant made the Bib Gourmand recommendations list in 2014 — the only restaurant south of Chinatown to do so that year.
