It’s been seven months since the closure of DNAinfo Chicago, the neighborhood news site we loved so much.

That’s why we are so excited — and so anxious — to finally present Block Club Chicago, our new nonprofit, ad-free neighborhood news site just for Chicago.

Did you like DNAinfo? Then we hope you’ll like us, too. Much of our team came from DNA — reporters and editors. We’re going to cover the city in the same style: stories big and small, serious and fun.

We’ll have a morning newsletter. Sign up! We’ll break news on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Follow us!

Yes, we’ll be smaller than DNAinfo. So bear with us as we ramp up our coverage to all parts of the city.

Do you have ideas for stories you’d like to see? Send them to us at newsroom@blockclubchi.org.

Would you rather text a tip? We’re at 312-860-0020.

So many of you already signed up for subscriptions via Kickstarter. THANK YOU so much!

The news this week is free to all, but soon we will become a subscription-based outlet. It’s become clear to us — and so many news outlets that produce original news with real reporters — that asking our readers for support is the only way to be sustainable.

So, please, take a minute to register for our site and consider signing up for a subscription.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be rolling out an option that allows readers to sponsor subscriptions for those who can’t afford one.  Keep an eye on our daily newsletters for information about how to get involved.

If you want to be a Block Club member and can’t swing the subscription cost, you can sign up to be on our sponsored members list here

Chicago is a wonderful city, with stories on every block. We’re going to tell as many as we can.

Join the club!
