DOWNTOWN — Chip City Cookies, a New York-based cookie chain, opened in the Gold Coast last week and plans to open three more locations around the city this summer.
Chip City made its Chicago debut Friday at 55 E. Chicago Ave. It’s known for its rotating menu of more than 40 flavors, including peanut butter and jelly, oatmeal apple pie, blueberry cheesecake, s’mores, lemon berry and cannoli.
Chip City’s menu changes weekly with traditional flavors, seasonal twists (like a Lucky Charms cookie ahead of St. Patrick’s Day and strawberry shortcake cookie for Valentine’s Day) and dairy-free options.
It also serves up “Chip Crookies,” which are cookies baked in a flaky croissant shell.
This week through Thursday, the Gold Coast shop will offer Italian rainbow cone, French toast, white chocolate macadamia, confetti and cookie butter cookies, among other flavors.
Customers can pair their desserts with whole, skim or non-dairy milk or cold brew coffee. The shop offers cookie-themed merchandise like tote bags, baseball caps, cookie tins and keychains.
Chip City updates its menu on Instagram and its website.
Childhood friends Peter Phillips and Teddy Gailas started Chip City in Queens, New York in 2017 as a challenge “to see who could create the best cookie,” according to a news release.
Since then, the shop has expanded to more than 35 locations nationwide, including in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Virginia and Massachusetts.
The cookie chain plans to open three more Chicago locations this summer in Wicker Park, Lincoln Park and Lakeview, according to the release.
