DOWNTOWN — A man who scaled a Downtown high-rise in an apparent political stunt Tuesday has been arrested, authorities said.

The man was seen just before 10 a.m. Tuesday climbing Accenture Tower, 500 W. Madison St. Video and photos of the incident circulated swiftly on social media as gawkers in neighboring buildings and commuters saw the man scaling the 40-story building.

First responders from the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Fire Department came to the scene of a “person threatening to jump,” but it is still unclear what the man’s intentions were, fire spokesperson Larry Merritt said. Madison Street was blocked during the incident.

The man was taken into police custody, according to Chicago police.

Maison DesChamps, also known as “Pro-Life Spiderman,” took credit for the climb, saying on Instagram that he was doing so to raise money for pro-life causes. The climb was sponsored by Conservative Dad Ultra Right Beer, according to company founder Seth Weathers.

This is a developing story. Check back in for updates.
