Skirt steak at Smoque Steak, 3310 N. Elston Ave.

AVONDALE — A steakhouse from the owners of acclaimed barbecue restaurant Smoque BBQ is making its debut this week.

Smoque Steak opens Thursday at 3310 N. Elston Ave. for reservations only, the owners announced in a news release. To make reservations, go here.

The restaurant serves smoked and seared steaks, seafood and vegetarian dishes along with classic steakhouse sides and desserts. There’s a cocktail and wine menu as well.

In addition to dine-in service, Smoque Steak has a butcher shop and market offering raw cuts and smoked steaks, chilled sides, finishing butters, sauces, wine and signature cocktails, plus kitchen gear such as cast iron pans and sous vide equipment, according to the release.

“The room is not going to have the same sort of feel as most of your downtown steakhouses,” co-owner Barry Sorkin told the Tribune.

“We want it to feel more like a neighborhood restaurant, and reference our barbecue roots. And take advantage of the bones of the building, which are very industrial.”

The restaurant is run by Smoque BBQ owners Sorkin, Al Sherman, Mike McDermott and Chris Hendrickson, plus a fourth partner, chef Dylan Lipe.

The steakhouse is an offshoot of Smoque BBQ, one of the city’s most popular barbecue joints. The unassuming counter spot at 3800 N. Pulaski Road, known for its tender smoked brisket, celebrated its 15th anniversary last year.
