CHICAGO — The Shedd Aquarium’s sea otters are big fans of this week’s snow.

The Shedd’s experts brought fresh snow into otters Coper and Watson’s habitat, allowing them to play with it in between dips in their pool, according to an aquarium news release. It’s part of the Shedd’s enrichment activities, which seek to provide physical and mental stimulation for the creatures in its care.

“Adding a new element like snow intrigues and satisfies these naturally curious animals,” according to the Shedd. “With the densest fur in the animal kingdom, the otters took no time investigating and sliding into the snow.”

Cooper and Watson are southern sea otters who were rescued after being found stranded as pups in California, according to the Shedd. They are “closely bonded” and have been at the aquarium since 2019, according ot the Shedd.
