CHICAGO — Readers of a popular travel magazine have voted Chicago the best big city to visit in the United States for the fifth year in a row.

Condé Nast Traveler released the results of its annual Readers Choice Awards on Tuesday, according to a Choose Chicago news release. More than 800,000 readers of Traveler magazine voted in this year’s survey, with Chicago winning out as the No. 1 big city to visit.

“This achievement is a testament to all the businesses that contribute to Chicago’s top-tier tourism and hospitality offerings, and the individuals that work silently to provide entertainment and attractions that captivate seasoned travelers, and residents,” said Glenn Eden, chair of Choose Chicago’s Board of Directors.

Traveler started surveying readers on what is the best big U.S. city in 2015. New York City took first up until 2016, but Chicago has claimed the spot every year since then

“Last year, I said being chosen by Condé Nast four times in a row was truly a testament to rich diversity of our city and an accomplishment unlike any other,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in the news release. “Now, we’ve one-upped ourselves.”

The magazine has surveyed transatlantic readers on their favorite travel destinations since 1987.
