IRVING PARK — A man died after he crashed into a building while driving Tuesday night.

At 7:05 p.m., the 48-year-old man was driving in the 3000 block of West Irving Park Road when he crashed into a light pole and then a nearby building, police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was identified as Patrick Defreeuw, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

The man’s car appears to have crashed into the southeast corner of the brick building at 3036 W. Irving Park Road, a neighbor said.

In a Facebook post, Ald. Rossana Rodriguez (33rd) asked for the community to respect the “dignity and privacy” of the family of the man who died.

“We are heartbroken to hear about a very serious car accident that took place on Irving Park and Whipple. We do not have any official details on the accident yet, but we ask for our community to send healing thoughts and prayers to the individual and their loved ones,” she said. “Please refrain from publicly sharing sensitive information unless or until you have been given permission to share it.”
