BRIDGEPORT — Feast on unique soups from some of the city’s top chefs who are busting out their soup tureens to raise money for charity.
Souper Bowl 3 kicks off at 6 p.m. Monday at Co-Prosperity Sphere, 3219 S. Morgan St. For $15, guests can try a bottomless supply of soups from almost 30 chefs and soup connoisseurs, including Entente’s Michelin-starred chef Brian Fisher, Nick Jirasek of Young American and Eden chef de cuisine Bryan Collante.
Neighborhood staples like Marz Brewing, The Duck Inn and Kimski will also take part, but organizer and Kimski chef Won Kim stressed that it’s not just professional chefs who have something delicious to offer.
“We want to shake it up and get all walks of life in there,” Kim said. “Whether it’s an artist or a DJ or a regular at Maria’s, we want to help them express their voice through food.”
Monday’s proceeds — 100 percent of them — will be donated to the National MS Society, the Public Media Institute that hosts the event, and Misericordia, a Chicago-based nonprofit that cares for people with disabilities.
Each participating charity for past events has received at least $500, Kim said. And while it can be hard to convince some to make the short trek to Bridgeport on a wintery Monday, “it is so easy to just show up,” Kim said. “Some people think it’s too far, which I think is absolutely ludicrous.”
But for those who can’t make it out Monday, Kim already has a date set for the fourth run of soup-centric extravaganza. The Jan. 13 event is expected to include creations from Bayan Ko chef-owner Lawrence Letero, David Choi of Seoul Taco, Dana Cree of Pretty Cool Ice Cream, Perilla’s Andrew Lim and Dave Park, the James Beard-nominated chef-owner of Jeong.
