Owner Rebecca Goldfarb’s L&M Fine Foods at 4363 N. Lincoln Ave. also offers artisan cheeses, coffee, produce at the corner of Lincoln and Montrose — L&M.

The store had a soft opening just in time for Thanksgiving and will host a grand opening Dec. 14.

“There were a lot of people who came in last minute who forgot a dish last week,” said Ian Ciulla, L&M’s director of operations. “We had things like stuffed acorn squash ready to go that people could just pop into the oven.”

Goldfarb’s The Social Table opened at 819 W. Armitage Ave. in 2012 after she began the business in Manhattan. It focuses on hosting cooking classes that are more like a dinner party or brunch with friends. The idea is to help cooking students feel more comfortable as they learn how to prepare new cuisines.

Goldfarb is continuing that friendly teaching method with the customers at L&M.

Ciulla encourages staff working at the grocer to pass out food samples and tell people about it.

“We are kind of a throwback to a classic neighborhood market. We want to be able to have a little bit of everything to give our customers what they need,” Ciulla said.

“We’re all about education, and we’re here for people who come in and want to learn more,” Ciulla said. “We love sharing our knowledge and want people to feel comfortable coming here and asking us questions.”

The grocer has a full-scale deli and butcher program, and customers can ask for specific cuts of meat.

“We also have prepared food to take home like potato salad and roasted Cornish game hen,” Ciulla said.

Ahead of Thanksgiving, L&M offered pre-orders of free-range, antibiotic-free turkeys from Minnesota-based Ferndale Market.

Because of that pre-order’s popularity, L&M will offer pre-orders of holiday hams and standing rib roast for Christmas and New Year’s.

L&M Fine Foods is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information visit L&M’s Facebook page here.
