LOGAN SQUARE — Chicago is the best big city in the United States for travelers, according to a survey from a prominent magazine.

Condé Nast Traveler revealed Monday that Chicago has been voted the best big city in the country for the third time in a row, according to a news release from the Mayor’s Office. The award-winning magazine covers luxury travel and has been in print since 1987.

“This wonderful recognition not only reflects the beauty and excitement of our great city but also our tourism industry’s dedicated efforts to attract people from across the country and around the globe,” said Mayor Lori Lightfoot in the news release.

The Mayor’s Office noted Chicago has opened 26 hotels in the last four years and has a “growing number of Michelin-starred and James Beard award-winning restaurants,” as well as highly ranked museums and tourist destinations.

More than 600,000 of Traveler magazine’s readers responded to this year’s survey about places to travel.

Traveler first started surveying readers on what was the best big city in 2015, giving the top honor to New York City in 2015 and 2016. Chicago has claimed the spot every year since then.

“Chicago being named best big city to visit is a true accolade for all of us in Chicago’s hospitality and meetings industry,” said Glenn Eden, chair of Choose Chicago’s Board of Directors, in the news release. “This recognition validates the momentum that we have been able to build upon these past few years but further underscores the City’s impact on the nation and world as a destination that everyone should experience.”
