Now in its sixth year, the Old Irving Park Beer & BBQ Challenge kicks off at 3 p.m. Saturday at the St. Viator School & Parish, 3644 N. Kedvale Ave.
Twenty-three teams comprised of a pitmaster and a craft brewer will present unique BBQ pork and beer pairings that event goers will be able to vote on.
Expert judges like pit master Phil Wingo of porkmafia, Jennifer Breckner of Brooklyn Brewery and Max Sterbenc of Omega Yeast will also be on hand to judge the teams.
General admission tickets are $65 in advance and $75 at the door. They include a BBQ sample and a beer pairing from each of the teams as well as a commemorative glass. VIP tickets are $100 in advance and $110 at the door and get you into the event one hour earlier. All tickets will be waiting for pick-up on Saturday.
In the past the fest has raised over $110,000 towards student programs, facilities, and athletics at St. Viator School & Parish. Tickets can be purchased here.
