HYDE PARK — Organizers of Hyde Park’s The 4th on 53rd Picnic and Parade are still looking for volunteers and donations for the event, now in its 28th year.

So far, a GoFundMe campaign has raised $250 of the $5,000 requested to help play for parade and picnic decorations, floats, music and performers for the Fourth of July event and the 10-week George Franklin Summer Concert Series in Nichols Park.

Volunteers are needed to carry sponsor banners during the parade and to help with picnic festivities in the park afterward.

There’s also still time to submit your haiku poem to the first Hyde Park Haiku Contest, a collaboration between the Hyde Park Herald and the 4th on 53rd parade committee. The winner will be selected Thursday with the grand prize winner taking home two tickets to a Cubs vs. Giants game next month.

The Hyde Park parade steps off at 11 a.m. July 4, with the picnic following immediately after. Those interested in volunteering can email organizers at nicholspark365@gmail.com, or leave a comment on this Facebook post.
