CHICAGO — An off-duty Chicago Police officer was shot and critically wounded early Wednesday in Bronzeville.
At 1:38 a.m., the 25-year-old man was driving in the 200 block of East 37th Street when someone in a black car fired shots at him, police said.
The officer was hit in his head and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. He was in emergency surgery as of 8 a.m., said Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
“Gun violence hit home to CPD last night …,” Guglielmi wrote in a tweet.
No one was in custody. An investigation was ongoing.
