CHICAGO — A man tried to kidnap a 16-year-old girl Tuesday in Humboldt Park, police said.

At 8 p.m. Tuesday, the girl was walking in the 3900 block of West Grand Avenue when a man walked up to her and said, “Your mother told me to come and get you,” according to a Chicago Police community alert.

The man grabbed the girl’s backpack. She pulled away and he grabbed her arms, police said.

Someone nearby saw what was happening and intervened, so the man got into a car and drove off, police said. He went east on Grand Avenue.

The man was black, 30-40 years old, 5-foot-9 to 6 feet tall and 200-230 pounds, police said. He wore blue jeans and a black, hooded coat. He drove a black, four-door Lexus.

Anyone with information about the attempted abduction was asked to call police at 312-744-8261.
