AVONDALE  — You’ve heard of Christmas in July, well Revolution Brewing is celebrating Pride in December.

Next Wednesday, Revolution is hosting its inaugural We Are Family fundraiser to support the LGBTQ community and raise money for Chicago House and Social Service Agency, a nonprofit which helps people disenfranchised by HIV/AIDS, LGBTQ marginalization, poverty, homelessness and gender nonconformity.

“We try to stand involved with different causes that mean a lot to people who work here. This year we decided to throw a pride event in December,” said John Carruthers, communications manager for Revolution. “We’re going to be switching out all the handles to rainbow tap handles.”

In addition to the colorful tap handles, next Wednesday’s fundraiser will include a musical celebration of brass jams by Sousaphones Against Hate that start at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a dance set from DJ Jill Hopkins.

“Jill is an ex-Revolution employee and a Vocalo host and an all around awesome person to have DJ any event,” said Barb Sessler , an employee at Revolution who is co-organizing next week’s event with Carruthers.

“We’re also going to have a silent auction with about 20 great items that include things like art prints, a bike, theater tickets, Chicago Bulls tickets,” Sessler said.

Some other items included at next week’s silent auction are from Girl and the Goat Hospitality and the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel. Winning bids will be tax deductible and processed directly through Chicago House.

Carruthers added that Revolution came up with a new beer for next week’s We Are Family event called Loud & Proud, a blood orange Session IPA. All sales of Loud & Proud will also go to benefit Chicago House from the day of the event through Dec. 16.

“It’s a really cool beer that we’re excited to pour,” Carruthers said.

Honey Butter Fried Chicken will be on-site serving food at the We Are Family fundraiser and be donating a portion of their sales.

“Of course pride events are common during Pride Month, but we like to think that every month is Pride Month and December seemed like a good festive time to do that,” Sessler said.

“The weather may not be as fun as pride, but the dance floor is just at hot all year round,” Carruthers said. “And we’re super grateful for the response to this. All of our partners for this event were really excited to put this together for Chicago House.
