CHICAGO — A transgender woman was stabbed to death Wednesday night in Garfield Park.

At 9:28 p.m., the woman was in an abandoned building in the 4500 block of West Adams Street when she was heard arguing with a man, police said. The man stabbed her, and she was found with multiple wounds in the building’s backyard, police said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as Ciara Minaj Carter by various organizations.

No one was in custody.

Carter was the 22nd trans person known to be killed this year, according to the Human Rights Campaign, and she was the second trans woman to be killed in Chicago in just the last few weeks.  Dejanay Stanton was killed in late August.
