CHICAGO — Severe storms could hit Chicago on Tuesday night, bringing with them the potential for tornadoes, damaging winds and hail.

The day will be warm, with a high of 65 degrees, and it’ll be mostly cloudy and breezy, with wind gusts up to 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

There’s a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day and into the night, but they’re expected to be non-severe during the late morning and early afternoon, according to a hazardous weather outlook from the weather service.

Thunderstorms are expected to be more widespread from the late afternoon into the evening — and they might be “strong to severe,” according to the outlook.

Tornadoes could develop with the worst storms, though the highest threat for that is west of I-39, according to the National Weather Service.

There’s also a chance for winds and damaging hail that could reach the size of a quarter, according to the National Weather Service. Strong southeasterly winds could reach 45 mph near and south of I-80.

There could be more strong to severe thunderstorms in the area Wednesday morning, with wind gusts up to 40 mph possible in the afternoon. At the least, rain showers are likely, according to the weather service. The day is expected to get as warm as 69 degrees.

Thursday will be slightly chillier, with a high of 53 degrees expected and more rain possible.

Friday will see sunnier skies return, and it could warm up to 58 degrees.
