CHICAGO — It’s officially fish fry season in Chicago.

Every spring, local churches and community groups hold weekly fish fries as a way to mark the season of Lent, the 40-day period before Easter. Catholics observe it through prayer, philanthropy and fasting. On Fridays, some refrain from eating meat — instead opting for fish — as a form of fasting.

That’s where the fish fries come in.

Here is a list of the parishes and community groups hosting fish fries. Most are held weekly on Fridays through the end of Lent, which runs through March 30. Some parishes only hold fish fries on certain Fridays. Check local listings before heading out.
