THE LOOP — If Chicagoans know one thing, it’s a classic, no-nonsense hot dog — so what about an over-the-top dog served up for nearly $200?

A Downtown hotel is celebrating Chicago’s 187th birthday with a luxurious dog and a price tag to match. For $187, Pendry Chicago is offering an alternative to the sausages found at stands across the city.

The new hot dog special features a French-style boudin blanc sausage, traditionally made of pork, on a poppy seed bun. It’s topped with black truffle granulated mustard, seared foie gras and a porcini rye crumble.

Included in the combo is yet another luxe take on a classic: an Old Fashioned made with Makers Mark cellar-aged bourbon, Macallan 12-year-old single malt scotch, Luxardo cherries and, last but not least, gold flakes.

If $187 is a little out of budget, The Pendry has another elevated take on the Chicago dog for a more affordable $28. It includes a signature hot dog served on Japanese milk bread with truffle gouda fondu, dill pickled green tomato and truffle mustard aioli. It’s paired with an Old Fashioned made using Uncle Nearest Rye, Angostura bitters and Demerara sugar.

Anyone interested in trying these unconventional hot dogs can head over to Bar Pendry, 81 E. Wacker Place They’re available March 1-4, Chicago’s birthday.
