ENGLEWOOD — Dion’s Chicago Dream, a South Side nonprofit tackling food insecurity in Englewood, is launching a competition to raise $1 million to help families in need.
Founder Dion Dawson and his team launched the Feed the Dream fundraiser Tuesday to collect enough money to provide 1,000 families with fresh, high-quality produce every week for a year, according to a news release from the nonprofit.
More than $37,000 of Dawson’s $1 million goal has been raised. The deadline is May 31. People can participate as an individual or as a team to raise the most money and win prizes.
Whoever raises the most as an individual will win a Chicago Bulls VIP game experience with premiere seats, personalized jerseys and a player-tunnel experience for two, plus a pre-game dinner at the United Center’s Queenies Supper Club.
The top fundraising team will share it’s prizes, which will include being featured on a billboard in the Chicago area, a newspaper ad, exclusive items from Dion’s Chicago Dream and a trophy, according to the competitions website.
There are also second- and third-place prizes for individuals and teams participating in the fundraiser.
“Feed the Dream is about fun, community building and making the world a better place,” Dawson said in the news release.
Those who are interested in donating can sign up to participate on the Feed the Dream website.
Dawson also plans to host weekly virtual meet-and-greets sharing his story, giving fundraising tips and answering questions. Those interested can register online.
Dawson experienced homelessness and food insecurity as a child, inspiring his work. The fundraiser is an extension of the nonprofit’s work, which includes managing a community fridge for Englewood neighbors and delivering produce to more than 150 households throughout the city.
