LOGAN SQUARE — A bike outing for families and kids is planned for Logan Square this weekend.

Logan Square’s Kidical Mass — a nod to the Critical Mass bike community — is set for 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, weather permitting. Families should meet 9 a.m. at the “bunny park” in the middle of Palmer Square Park, according to the event page. The group will ride 2-4 miles at a slow pace.

The event is designed to safely introduce kids to riding on city streets and trails.

“It’s a great opportunity to meet other families in the community, to get your family, especially your new, independent riders, comfortable riding in groups and on the street, and … it’s a ton of fun,” organizer Rebecca Resman said.

Saturday’s event is part of a series put on by Resman’s community group, Chicago Family Biking. The group typically hosts Kidical Mass events every month in Logan Square and in other parts of the city and suburbs, including Roscoe Village and Berwyn.

The events are geared toward kids who have “progressed beyond training wheels.” But younger kids can still participate by riding with their parents via child trailers, child seats or trail-a-bikes.

Helmets are required. All kids must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
