CHICAGO — A restaurant employee reportedly spit on one of President Donald Trump’s sons Tuesday at The Aviary, drawing a U.S. Secret Service and Chicago Police response.

Eric Trump, the president’s son from his first marriage, was at the Fulton Market restaurant when a woman came up to him and spit on him, he told Breitbart, a far-right news, opinion and conspiracy site.

Trump called it a “disgusting act.”

The woman was temporarily detained and has not been charged.

In a statement, The Aviary said the waitress had been placed on leave because “no customer should ever be spit upon.” The upscale restaurant and bar criticized people who have left it bad reviews for the incident but also said the waitress’s actions shouldn’t be praised as “an act of civil disobedience.”

“We hope this incident can, at least, serve to illuminate the current absurdity of the discourse in our politics,” according to The Aviary.

Trump declined to press charges, the Trump Organization said, according to the Chicago Tribune.

“Eric was out to dinner on business when a waitress … spit in his face,” the organization said, according to the Tribune.

Chicago Police officers helped the Secret Service “with a law enforcement matter” at the restaurant, spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a tweet.

Trump had tweeted photos of the Trump Hotel earlier in the day, saying it was “one of the most beautiful buildings in the world!”
