HYDE PARK — Ald. Sophia King held on to her seat as 4th ward alderman Tuesday.

With 94 percent of precincts reporting Tuesday night, King had more than 66 percent of the vote to challenger Ebony Lucas’s 33 percent.

King, 53, grew up in Evanston and worked on Barack Obama’s first presidential campaign in 2007. She was appointed to the 4th Ward seat in 2016 after Will Burns stepped down to take a private sector job with Airbnb, which forced a special election in 2017.

Back then, Lucas was one of five challengers vying for the seat. King won with 64 percent of the vote. Lucas decided to try again in 2019.

The 4th Ward includes parts of the South Loop and Bronzeville, Kenwood, and Hyde Park.
