ALBANY PARK — A Chicago firefighter caught and saved a cat that jumped from a window during a Tuesday afternoon apartment fire.

No one was hurt in the blaze in an apartment in the 4700 block of North Lawndale Avenue.

“There was a fire there, on the third floor,” said Larry Langford, a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Dept. “They didn’t have much difficulty putting it out.”

The blaze began around 1 p.m. and was caused by careless smoking, Langford said.

Neighbors saw a firefighter catch a cat that jumped out of a third-floor window to escape the blaze.

“There were two cats. One was able to get out on its own and a firefighter was able to get a little black cat out and make sure it was safe,” said Langford.
