What are the benefits of donating my car to Block Club Chicago?
There are so many benefits of donating your vehicle to Block Club Chicago! First, donating your car helps you avoid the costs and hassles associated with selling a car — like paying for advertising and insurance, car repairs to keep your car in running condition while you wait for a buyer and ongoing costs like registration, insurance and parking. In addition, vehicle donations are tax-deductible, so you could reduce your taxable income when taxes are itemized. Finally, donating is easy and the pick-up is free!
What type of paperwork will I need to donate my car?
You will need a current and clear title. Any lien holder listed on the title must be cleared and/or released by the bank.
What types of vehicles are eligible?
All vehicles are considered — in all conditions, running or not — including cars, trucks, trailers, boats, RVs, motorcycles, campers, off-road vehicles, planes, heavy equipment, farm machinery, and most other motorized vehicles. To find out if your vehicle qualifies, please complete the secure online vehicle donation form, or call 855-500-RIDE (7433) and tell the Donor Support Team you’re contributing on behalf of Block Club Chicago. Support is available seven days a week during operating hours:
7 a.m. – 9 p.m. Mondays-Fridays
8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Saturdays
10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sundays
Are there any hidden costs?
Nope! There are no costs to you as the donor. All expenses are deducted from the gross sales price, and if the costs ever exceed the price, those costs are covered by CARS (Charitable Adult Rides & Services). This includes the cost of towing.
Are vehicle donations tax-deductible?
Yes; vehicle donations are tax-deductible. Individual tax situations vary. For specific tax- related questions, please consult your tax advisor or refer to IRS Publication 4303.
What do I need to do after I receive my receipt?
Illinois requires all donors to complete a Seller’s Report of Sale after vehicle pick-up to release liability. Click here for a clear outline of the steps to complete an Illinois Seller’s Report, including links to all necessary forms and instructions on how to submit to your local field office in person or by mail.
*Vehicle donations are tax deductible, but individual tax situations vary. Consult your tax advisor or refer to IRS Publication 4303 if you have more questions about your eligibility.
