BRONZEVILLE — Police again are searching for a missing boater who disappeared off the shore of 31st Street Beach while boating Tuesday morning.

The police department’s Marine Unit restarted the search Friday morning for 38-year-old Bryan Jackson, a spokesperson confirmed.

The Tribune reported Jackson went into the lake to swim about a mile offshore around 7 a.m. Tuesday with a woman who returned to the boat alone. The Sun-Times reported that first responders arrived around 9 a.m to search for him.

The Coast Guard suspended their search for the father of two Tuesday afternoon. A missing person’s report has been filed, police said.

Jackson, a former college football standout, is the former partner of activist Tanya Lozano, co-founder of Healthy Hood Chicago.

Lozano put out a plea on social media Tuesday asking for the public’s help in finding Jackson. She said first responders were not doing enough to find him.

“He’s an athlete, he can fend for himself, so it doesn’t make sense he would drown,” said Lozano in an Instagram post.

Jackson has been a master trainer with Nike since 2017 and worked with several Chicago sports teams, including the Chicago Bulls.

Lozano told the Tribune another man and woman were onboard the 27-foot boat from which Jackson disappeared. They told Lozano they were on the bottom deck when Jackson and the second woman jumped in the water to swim. By the time the two returned to the top deck, he and the woman were gone, Lozano told the Tribune.

The owner of the boat found the woman about 15 minutes later, but not Jackson, the Sun-Times reported.

According to the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project, over 30 people have drowned in Lake Michigan in 2023.
