PORTAGE PARK — Portage Park neighbors can weigh in on two designs for the neighborhood park’s existing set of six tennis courts, which are due for an overhaul later this year.

The Portage Park Advisory Council and Friends of Portage Park groups are requesting feedback on two designs. One includes a new basketball court along with pickleball and tennis courts, and one does not, according to the drawings shared by the Chicago Park District.

Residents and people who frequent the park can vote for their preferred design by taking an online survey. Feedback must be submitted by Wednesday.

The plans will also be available for neighbors to review at Sunday’s farmers market at the park, 4100 N. Long Ave., with stickers for people to place on the design they prefer, market officials said in an email.

The park additions are part of the city’s promise to deliver 50 new pickleball courts in Chicago parks by 2025, funded by the Chicago Recovery Program as interest in the sport grows.

Shabbona Park, 6935 W. Addison St. is also set to get four pickleball courts and have three updated tennis courts. Those renovations have begun and Portage Park’s are scheduled to follow, Ald. Nick Sposato (38th) said in Thursday’s newsletter.

“I look forward to the completion of these long-awaited improvements to our parks amenities,” the alderman wrote.
