BUCKTOWN — A pickleball pop-up is opening today at Lincoln Yards.
Real estate development firm Sterling Bay is partnering with Big City Pickle to bring 11 publicly accessible courts to the Lincoln Park mega-development.
The courts are on the border of Lincoln Park and Bucktown at 1685 N. Throop St., directly adjacent to Fleet Fields. They will be open through the end of November.
Big City Pickle began as a partnership between the Chicago Sports & Social Club and We Love Pop Ups. Big City Pickle operates more than 40 pickleball courts in Fulton Market, Gold Coast and Goose Island, according to a press release.
Fleet Fields, developed and financed by Sterling Bay in 2019, has served as a temporary public park space for sports and fitness organizations in the area, including American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), CPD Soccer Club and Urban Initiatives, according to the press release.
“The demand for pickleball courts in Chicago is not slowing down,” Marc Bortz, founder of Big City Pickle, said in the release. “We’re eager to open more facilities across the city, and popping up at Lincoln Yards allows us to piggyback on the success of Fleet Fields, meeting active Chicagoans where they’re at.”
The Lincoln Yard pickleball courts are open 8 a.m.-9 p.m. seven days a week, with lighting for evening play. Court reservations and private events can be booked at ChicagoCityPickle.com.
