LOGAN SQUARE — Neighbors can get a unique look at some of the area’s most impressive historical homes and culturally and architecturally significant buildings and gardens at a local group’s preservation walk next month.

Logan Square Preservation’s 34th biennial house and garden walk is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 9. The tour will feature a total of 13 sites, a mix of historical homes and gardens, modern buildings and more.

Presale tickets cost $30 and can be bought online. New this year are $100 VIP (Very Important Preservationist) tickets, which allow event-goers to skip the long lines at all 13 sites. Day-of tickets cost $40.

The walk will kick off at The Minnekirken Church, 2614 N. Kedzie Ave. Ticket-holders will get a map and hop on a trolley to tour the featured properties with trained guides, organizers said.

The tour will feature the Popp House at 3230 W. Belden Ave., which was built in 1911 by architect Fred Popp.

This year’s lineup includes the Norske Klub, an early 1900s social club that has been converted into apartments, the Jefferson Ice House, a Logan Boulevard mansion built for the family behind the Jefferson Ice Company and the Logan Square Auditorium, an early 20th century gem designed by the firm Worthmann & Steinbach.

Ticket-holders will also get a chance to tour buildings with cultural significance, such as Lucy Gonzalez Parsons Apartments, the all-affordable housing complex next to the Logan Square Blue Line station.

During the event, vintage cars from the Lambda Car Club and Windy City Classics will be on display on Logan Boulevard between California and Sacramento avenues.

It’s the organization’s first house and garden walk since 2018. The event went on hiatus during the pandemic.

This year’s sponsors include Liberty Bank, Second City Construction and Federales.

Founded in 1980, Logan Square Preservation is a neighborhood organization dedicated to the preservation and beautification of Logan Square. The group reviews zoning and land use proposals, helps restore local landmarks and spearheads improvement projects, such as tree planting.
