ROGERS PARK — Howard Street will get a colorful makeover this weekend as the Chalk Howard Street event returns to the neighborhood.

Chalk Howard Street will take place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday along Howard Street from east of the Red Line to Ashland Avenue. The free, family friendly event features world-renowned 3D and 2D chalk artists from across the country creating new works drawn on the street.

This year’s event also includes a full lineup of live music plus food and drinks and artisan vendors. Food will be available from Badou Senegalese Cuisine, Jaunitas Mexican Food and Urban Tables.

Other vendors include Black Box Record Club, Bourbon and Spark, A Girl And Her Pug Woodworks and Comfortably Queer, according to organizers with the Rogers Park Business Alliance.

Artists and families can also buy a sectioned off portion of Howard Street to create their own chalk drawing. Four-by-four-foot squares are available for $25 and include chalk. To purchase a square, click here.

Chalk Howard Street debuted in 2019. It returned to Howard Street last year after being into virtual demonstrations in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.
