OLD TOWN — A mile-long stretch of Wells Street from the Near North Side into Old Town will be resurfaced next week.

Crews from the Chicago Department of Transportation will resurface Wells Street from Institute Place to Lincoln Avenue beginning Thursday, according to an alert from Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd).

Crews will begin milling the street — the process of removing the top layer of old asphalt — Thursday and Friday, weather permitting, Hopkins said. Repaving will begin next week.

Small sections of curbs and sidewalks will also be replaced, but the street’s configuration will not change, Hopkins said. Businesses affected by the sidewalk work have already been notified.
