DOWNTOWN — The Chicago Fire and Police Departments will perform a live water rescue demonstration Wednesday, according to the Office of Emergency Management and Communications.
The live water rescue demonstration will take place at 1:15 p.m. on the Chicago River in front of the Hyatt Regency Hotel at 151 E. Wacker Drive.
The demonstration will also include an “active threat response” at the same location, which will involve simulated gunfire and explosions, officials said in a press release.
Additional departments in the exercise include Chicago Fire Department Air Sea Rescue helicopters, marine units, Chicago Police Department SWAT and special functions teams.
The demonstration is part of the city’s participation in the 2023 National Homeland Security Association Conference. The conference annually brings together professionals from Homeland Security, law enforcement, fire rescue, EMS and emergency management teams from across the country.
