KENWOOD — A SUV driver going the wrong way on DuSable Lake Shore Drive collided with a CTA bus early Sunday, killing a woman inside the SUV and injuring the bus driver and 12 passengers, police said.

Around 6 a.m. Sunday, the driver of a Dodge Journey was going south in the northbound lanes of the 4500 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive when he hit the bus, police said.

A female passenger in the SUV was taken to a local hospital, where she later died, police said. A male driver of the Dodge and another female passenger were both taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said.

A person is in custody and charges are pending, police said.

The bus driver and 12 passengers were taken to local hospitals with unknown injuries, police said.

No other information was available about how the SUV driver was able to get onto DuSable Lake Shore Drive in the wrong direction.

A CTA spokesperson said the agency is “continuing to support the Chicago Police Department’s investigation.”
