ANDERSONVILLE — A macaron company is coming to Clark Street in Andersonville, the latest dessert chain to announce plans to open in the neighborhood.
Macaron Bar is planning to open by August at 5152 N. Clark St., according to a sign in the storefront’s window. It is taking over the former home of Frio Gelato, which closed during the pandemic.
The Cincinnati-based company specializes in French sandwich cookies called macarons. The Clark Street location will be the first Chicago outpost for Macaron Bar, which was founded in 2014 and has seven stores in five cities: Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, Louisville and Pittsburgh.
Macaron Bar’s macarons include flavors like Earl Grey tea, Madagascar vanilla, pistachio, mimosa, birthday cake and fruity cereal, according to its website.
The company routinely rolls out monthly seasonal flavors as well. All of its macarons are gluten-free.
The Andersonville store will be retail only while Macaron Bar works to open a production kitchen in Chicago, according to the sign in the window. For now, macarons will be delivered daily to Andersonville from the company’s Indianapolis location, according to Eater Chicago.
The planned Chicago production kitchen will host macaron baking classes and food pairing events, according to Macaron Bar.
Macaron Bar is the fourth dessert parlor with multiple locations to announce an expansion in Andersonville since spring 2022.
That’s when Kilwin’s ice cream and fudge parlor made public its plans to open at 5224 N. Clark St., a project that is still underway.
In January, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams opened in the former home of George’s Ice Cream on Clark Street, the latest Chicago location for the Columbus, Ohio-based upscale ice cream shop.
National cake retailer Nothing Bundt Cakes will also open a franchise in the neighborhood at 4918 N. Clark St.
