LAKEVIEW — The owners of popular ramen chain Strings have leased the vacant Lakeview building previously home to Furious Spoon.
Strings’ owners will take over 800 W. Belmont Ave. and plan to open an Asian eatery, said Craig Wolf, the leasing agent for the building.
The new restaurant is down the street from Strings’ Lakeview outpost at 919 W. Belmont Ave. The chain also has restaurants in Chinatown, Hyde Park, suburban Aurora, Indiana and Wisconsin.
Strings’ owners could not be reached for comment.
Furious Spoon, a 2,000-square-foot restaurant at the busy corner of Belmont Avenue and Halsted Street, closed in April after six years in the neighborhood. Only the Logan Square Furious Spoon at 2410 N. Milwaukee Ave. remains open.
Prior to Furious Spoon, the building was best known for housing Spin Nightclub, a popular gay bar that ran for more than 15 years, according to DNAinfo.
What was once a massive dance floor with raised platforms for performances is now a fully built-out restaurant with a 20-foot hood, full bar and 1,000-square-foot prep kitchen in the basement with a walk-in cooler. The building also has a rear patio, Wolf said.
