FULTON MARKET — Nisos, a Mediterranean restaurant in Fulton Market, has closed temporarily after “mutually” parting ways with its executive chef, leaders announced on Instagram.

Nisos, 802 W. Randolph St., was one of the most anticipated openings last year with executive chef Avgeria Stapaki from Greece. The Parker Hospitality restaurant opened in July inside the former Bad Hunter space on Randolph’s Restaurant Row and boasted of authentic cuisine from Mediterranean chefs.

The restaurant inside the massive, 9,000-square-foot space closed Monday.

“Nisos will be temporarily closing while we hone our vision and take the steps to reevaluate the Nisos brand. Parker Hospitality and Chef Avgeria Stapaki have mutually agreed to part ways,” Brad Parker, CEO of Parker Hospitality, said in a statement.

It was not immediately clear how long the restaurant will be closed.

Parker met Stapaki in Mykonos in Greece seven years ago and was so impressed with her cooking that he recruited her to Chicago to open Nisos, according to Eater.

In a November review, the Tribune’s Nick Kindelsperger wrote that although the decor and diners were attractive, Nisos lacked where it counts the most: the food.

Parker thanked Stapaki for her “vision and commitment” to the restaurants opening.

“She has exciting future projects in the works and we look forward to seeing her successes,” Parker said in a statement.

Stapaki could not immediately be reached for comment.
