CHICAGO — Someone set fire to an Englewood home, injuring two children, late Sunday, police said.

About 11:30 p.m., someone ignited an object and threw it at the back of a home in the 6100 block of South Carpenter Street, police said. Officers and firefighters went to the fire, where a man and four children had been unable to get out.

The man told officials a child was still inside the home; firefighters went in and rescued a 4-year-old, police said.

The 4-year-old had inhaled smoke and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, police said. A 9-year-old boy was also taken to the hospital in good condition for smoke inhalation.

No other injuries were reported.

An investigation is ongoing.
