NORTHALSTED — Slayyyter, pop punk band Meet Me @ the Alter and drag queen Eureka O’Hara are among this year’s Pride Fest headliners.
Pride Fest is June 17-18 along a stretch of North Halsted Street within the city’s landmarked LGBTQ community. It’s organized by the Northalsted Business Alliance, the local chamber of commerce.
This year’s headliners also include Heather Small, a British soul singer and former lead vocalist for the band M People, and pop singer JORDY, according to Northalsted leaders. Other performers include Nick Osin, Shab, Ultra Naté, Ariana and the Rose, Dancing Queen: An ABBA Salute and Ultrabeat.
The annual LGBTQ festival attracts thousands of visitors to the neighborhood, where they celebrate LGBTQ culture and community.
It’s held the weekend before the Pride Parade, which is organized independently from the business chamber. The parade is June 25.
“We come together in June to celebrate community and uplift each other in the struggle for equality and human rights,” said Mark Liberson, Northalsted vice president and lead event organizer. “Despite decades of progress, the need for Pride has not lessened, as outright attacks, especially on transgender and BIPOC members of our community, are ongoing.”
A donation of $15 is suggested for entry into the festival. It will help pay performers, event workers and fund community programs throughout the year.
