CHICAGO — The city broke a 136-year-old record for warm temperatures Thursday.
But it could snow by Monday.
The city’s seen unseasonably warm temperatures in the 70s and 80s this week, with Thursday seeing a high of 83 degrees — breaking a record from 1887, when that April 13 was 82 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
The sunny, warm weather is expected to continue Friday and Saturday. Friday will be mostly sunny with a high of about 78 degrees and wind gusts up to 15 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Saturday could hit 76 degrees and will be mostly sunny, with overnight storms possible.
The weather begins to change after that: Sunday is expected to cool off significantly, with temperatures falling throughout the day and a high of 64 degrees predicted, according to the National Weather Service. Showers and possibly a thunderstorm are expected during the day, and there could be wind gust up to 30 mph.
Monday will be even chillier: It’s expected to only get as warm as 46 degrees, and rain is likely — there could even be snow mixed in during the morning and early afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
The change in weather means Chicago could go from a high of 78 degrees during the day Friday to a low of 27 degrees by Monday night, according to the National Weather Service. That’s a 51-degree difference.
