CHICAGO — Election officials are urging Chicagoans to return their vote-by-mail ballots as soon as possible before the April 4 election.
Vote-by-mail ballots will be counted as long as they’re postmarked by April 4, which is Election Day — but officials released a statement Monday asking that the ballots be returned earlier if possible to ensure they’re counted by Election Day.
More than 198,000 people have applied to vote by mail, and 7,520 ballots have been returned, according to the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.

Once you get your ballot, you can fill it out and mail it back to the city, deliver it personally to the election board, leave it in a dropbox or have it delivered through a licensed service such as FedEX, UPS or DHL.

All vote-by-mail ballots that had been requested have been shipped, though Chicagoans have until 5 p.m. Thursday to apply online to vote by mail, according to the elections board.
The board has urged Chicagoans to apply before then to ensure there’s as much time as possible for the ballot to be shipped to their home, filled out and returned.
