FULTON MARKET — Police are searching for the person who killed a 23-year-old man in a hit-and-run early Saturday.
At 1:06 a.m., a driver ignored a stop sign and hit a 26-year-old man as he crossed the street in the 800 block of West Washington Boulevard, police said. The driver was in a black 2006-2010 Mercedes-Benz.
The 26-year-old had blunt force trauma throughout his body and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as James Richard Thompson of suburban Plainfield.
After hitting Thompson, the driver took off, police said. Police said the front of the car is damaged, and it is missing the passenger side-view mirror.
Police asked anyone with video of West Washington Boulevard from Sangamon Street to Wacker Drive to share it for their investigation.
Anyone with surveillance footage or information about the crash or vehicle can call 312-745-4521.
