EDGEWATER — The two candidates vying to be the next 48th Ward alderperson will discuss the ward’s issues at a forum Wednesday.

Candidates Joe Dunne and Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth will participate in a debate 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Ita’s meeting hall, 5500 N. Broadway.

The event will see the candidates discuss topics ranging from economic development, transportation and sustainability. It is being organized by the chamber groups in Uptown, Edgewater and Andersonville.

Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP online. Attendees can also submit a question to be asked by clicking on the RSVP survey. Seating will be limited to the first 300 people.

Dunne and Manaa-Hoppenworth were the highest vote earners in a 10-person race to succeed a retiring Ald. Harry Osterman (48th). Dunne is an affordable housing developer, and Manaa-Hoppenworth is a local business owner and political organizer.

The two will face off in the April 4 runoff to determine the 48th Ward’s future and the political makeup of the City Council. The 48th Ward includes Edgewater, a northern portion of Uptown and East Andersonville.
