CHICAGO — Brandon Johnson and Paul Vallas will appear in their first head-to-head debate Wednesday after advancing to the mayoral runoff election.

The forum starts 6 p.m. Wednesday and is being hosted by NBC 5 and Telemundo Chicago in partnership with the Union League, the Urban League and Latino Policy Forum.

The debate will appear on both channels and online at NBC. NBC political reporter Mary Ann Ahern will moderate.

Vallas came in first in the Feb. 28 election, receiving 33 percent of the vote. Johnson followed with 21 percent, according to the latest results. Mail ballots are still being processed by the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.

Both edged out incumbent Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García.

Vallas and Johnson have spent the week since the election locking down endorsements.

Johnson landed support from county board President Toni Preckwinkle and Rep. Danny Davis. Vallas has recently been endorsed by former Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, Ald. Walter Burnett (27th) and former mayoral candidate Ald. Rod Sawyer (6th).

The runoff election is April 4.
