WICKER PARK — Fairgrounds Coffee and Tea has closed its Wicker Park cafe in the center of the neighborhood.
The Chicago-based chain, which also has locations in Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Dallas, opened the Wicker Park coffee house in 2017 at 1620 N. Milwaukee Ave.
The coffee shop stood empty Friday, with a sign that said “Thank You For The Memories” posted on its door and a QR code directing customers to other Fairgrounds locations.
Company management did not reply to a request for comment about the store’s closure.

The closure is the latest in a string of challenges for coffee shops in the Wicker Park area.
Intelligentsia announced last month it was closing its retail store at 1609 W. Division St. The company will also close its Logan Square location on April 19.
In September, Wormhole Coffee closed its second location in the Margie’s Candies building on the Logan Square and Bucktown border. The original Wormhole location 1462 N. Milwaukee Ave. is still in business and is “doing great,” co-owner Dan Weiss told Block Club last year.
Fairgrounds still operates Chicago stores in Fulton Market, River North, Hyde Park and in the Chicago Athletic Association Building in the Loop, according to its website.
