PORTAGE PARK — A Six Corners ice cream shop is back in business as spring hits Chicago.
Lovin’ Scoop at 4032 N. Milwaukee Ave., which opened last summer, reopened Wednesday for the season with new flavors, co-owner Billy Taleb said.
The shop sells ice cream cones, milkshakes, sundaes and espresso drinks from Capannari Ice Cream and Catering, a family-owned business based in suburban Mount Prospect.
Lovin’ Scoop closed in November for the winter and held private events. Taleb decided to reopen early this year given the milder winter weather, he said.
“The weather is nicer, so, hopefully, people will come out and eat some ice cream,” Taleb said.
New flavors on the menu include cold brew stracciatella, creme de menthe, black forest licorice and fluffternutter, peanut butter ice cream with marshmallow creme swirl.
More flavors are planned to be unveiled in May, the owner said.
Taleb, who co-owns Mesa Urbana catering next door and the Lincoln Park restaurant of the same name, previously said he always dreamed of opening an ice cream shop where his daughter could work during the summer and that could offer a place for youth to develop a strong work ethic.
“I really want to have a summer job for her and her friends,” he said. “I have a big family, and I see these kids that sometimes get into trouble, so I was thinking, how can we bring these kids to get busy, make a little money and get to know them? This is the thing that inspires me.”
The Taleb family also owns Province Pizza, which opened in January 2022 but closed in April because of staff shortages. Taleb didn’t have updates to the restaurant as of Wednesday.
The ice cream shop is open 2-8 p.m. daily.
